The rubrics that guide my personal evaluation of research articles focus on credibility of the author (Coughlan, Cronin, & Ryan, 2007); grammar and spelling; purpose/problem (Ryan, Coughlan, & Cronin, 2007); literature review; theoretical framework; objectives, questions and/or hypotheses; research design; findings/results; conclusion and interpretations of findings (Barnas & LaFrenier, 2013); study limitations; and implications for findings (Cope & Phillips, 2009).

Part II: Analysis of Articles

This part of the assignment focuses on demonstrating the effectiveness of my rubric for evaluating the research articles. Therefore, the following two articles are evaluated based on my personal rubric.

Article 1: Girls and young women's participation in physical activity: psychological and social influences.

The authors summarize the social influences on the physical activity participation they found important to young girls. The authors also suggest the theoretical implications of their findings and the intervention strategies that can be used in increasing sport participation among girls.

Study Limitations

The authors discuss a few limitations associated with their research.

The descriptive statistics for this article based on the rubric are M = 4.1, SD = 1.9. Therefore, the research of Coleman et al. (2008) is credible, well written, has a clearly identified purpose, theoretical framework and objectives. The authors also have a strong literature review, detailed research design, findings and conclusions. However, they failed to acknowledge the study limitations.
